Overwhelm is brought on by other things happening around us and our reaction to them, like: fears around money, inability to create balance between work and family, the need to know something when it just isn’t ready to reveal itself yet, frustration when things aren’t going fast enough… Gosh I can just feel how one could just work oneself up into a frenzy. I’m guilty of this too! The wonderful thing is we get to notice when this is happening… and choose something different.We can say NO to desperation and frustration, both big contributors to overwhelm and misery, and YES to peace, clarity and inspiration.

In the theme of ‘less is more’ (mentioned under the post Visibility: Less is More) it seems to be coming up again and again for myself and the people around me. This idea is that if we take a step back from what we want so much ironically the answers come to us with more ease and fairly quickly, if we do the opposite it creates more struggle and a longer time for the answers to emerge. I remember one of my clients wanting to have instantaneous clarity around her ideal client. This is sometimes an evolutionary process over a period of time before we know what it truly is,even if we’re in the ball park. What was interesting is that when she took a step back and allowed the intention of knowing what it was, to bubble under the surface in our subconscious – she allowed the universe to respond to that intention, and it started to do the work for her. In stepping back, in the space of allowing, and not ‘want’ or ‘need’, the energy opens up and s tarts to flow towards us with the answers we’re looking for. And that is exactly what happened with this client. It was perfection.

It feels counter-intuitive doesn’t it? If you want something badly, the need for it increases and increases. Doing the opposite can seem like madness!

Being patient for your business to evolve and grow is another big one. Often what I see is clients, wanting it all done yesterday. A sense of desperation that comes from a lack of finances, and a frustration from not being where they would like to be in the growth of their business, because it’s not happening fast enough. Give yourself permission to know that ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’ (yes, I said it!), this is so true. It’s like asking a newborn baby to be a man tomorrow. There is a process, or a journey that needs to take place in order for your business to evolve. How fast you move and grow, is dependent on your ability not to get in your own way, and to take care of yourself along the way. And again sometimes stepping back and allowing those inner awareness’s to come through, helps you to do that.

Whatever you do… just breathe. When all else fails… just breathe.

And stopping beating yourself up.

Stepping back, allowing, trusting, having patience and self-nurturing, will all help you get to where you want to go, in a calm, clear and peaceful manner.

Remember ‘less is more’.

I had a fabulous experience this last week, where an organization called The Journey (that is very close to my heart) put on a series of 8 calls called The Journey Cleanse Calls 2011 (free to listen to the recordings) and culminated in an all day in-person workshop yesterday called D-Day …Decision Day.  What an amazing way to start the New Year.  The reason why I’m sharing this with you, is because I realized that we need to do more than planning and goalsetting.  There is actually something you want to do before you get into the nuts and bolts of what lies before you.  It’s like laying the foundations of a house, or growing the roots of a solid tree – those things need to be in place in order to have a sturdy house or a healthy tree that stays in place in  heavy winds and gets the nutrients it needs.  It’s the same for us!

So what is it, I should be doing you might ask?  Its about getting clear of all the old beliefs and vows we’ve made that are getting in the way of our success.  You might at this point not know what those beliefs are that are holding you back, or even think that nothing is holding you back – well, you might be surprised…

I had a breakthrough yesterday on a belief that I didn’t even realize was holding me back. I am one of those people that just goes ahead and does it anyway, so it didn’t feel like there was anything there getting in my way.  I realized that I had a hidden belief of ‘not being capable’ that was attached to a memory from my childhood, that in effect was cancelling out the energy of all the big things I was doing and getting in the way of great success.  This sometimes manifested with a feeling stuckness or wading through mud.  NOW I know I can claim ‘the power and capable-ness’ of my new belief that I got to create during the workshop.  Whew! what power that gave me – the clarity of my year, the momentum I could feel being generated, the success of all I was doing  in 2011 was immediately apparent in a way I had not felt before.  So the realization that I was getting in my own way was huge.

So I want to put this to you….

• What belief do you have around money, success, the economy, your abilities, your worthiness or deservedness, that might be lurking under the surface?
• What vow have you made that might not be serving you any more?  (when I was younger I made a vow never to be the center of attention in front of an audience again – lol look at me now!)
• What is constantly getting in your way?
• What is a common challenge that keeps arising?
• What mindset do you know intrinsically is not helping you?  (what is the belief underneath that…)

These are all questions that might give you some insight into a belief that is lurking under the surface that’s not helping or supporting you or your cause.  It might even be something obvious!

So now you’ve identified the belief.  Ready to change it?

Create a quiet space, close your eyes- get really still, and ask yourself if you have a memory attached to that belief.  Just let whatever appears, just surface in your mind.

Now invite all those in that memory gather round an imaginary campfire – one that offers safety and understanding.   Tell the people at the campfire that this belief is no longer serving you. (feel free to tell them why)  Then tell them what your new and supportive belief is to replace the old unsupportive belief. (repeat this belief to yourself a few times out loud to embed it in your mind and body).

Now forgive those at the campfire for contributing to the formation of the old belief. Forgive the universe/God for it being part of your existence. And finally allow forgiveness for yourself for holding onto that belief.

Then let your higher self give you sage advice or a message if  there is one to be given.

Now imagine….

What life is like with this new belief in place a day from now…

What  life is  like a week from now with this new belief …..

What  life is like a month from now….

And 6 months from now….

And now come back to the present.

I know clearing out like this, creates a beautiful foundation for the work on planning and goal-setting. The slate really is clean to start afresh and create the momentum for yourself this year in a powerful way.

The lesson was all about ‘Letting Go’. Subsequently through my expansion, I realised that this message is scattered through many spiritual teachings and is one of the main tenets to creating what you desire in life. Once you ‘let go’ of what you are desperate to accomplish or achieve, it unblocks the constriction or flow of energy around that very thing you wanted in the first place. Once the energy opens up and becomes more positive, the amount of possibilities available to you, start flowing towards you. You’ll see opportunities available when you never thought they were there. And the truth is they are always there, and they were always there. When we focus too much on one thing, its at the exclusion of everything else and so we can’t SEE anything else!

My mastermind group was an interesting one today, as we all seemed to be mirroring this concept. Synchronicities!   What is clear to me through my experience and those of my mastermind group, as well as many of my clients, is that when we create space in our business, to take care of ourselves, nurture ourselves, and let go of any attachment to what we desire, the rewards are rich indeed!  And we don’t have to work like slaves to get there.

So my request of you, is to notice.  Yes, NOTICE!  Notice if you are holding onto an idea so tightly, or an outcome so tightly that it feels really uncomfortable, that its actually not happening.  You’re trying to figure something out so hard, and the answer is not appearing.  You’re working so hard, day and night, and you’re not getting the results you want.  Or your feeling overwhelmed or stuck. Notice if any of this resonates with you….  Just in the recognising and having the awareness of our actions or our attitude, we can immediately make a positive change.

My challenge to you is to ‘let go’, give yourself or the idea some space, go take a walk or a couple of days off even. Whew, some of you are perhaps balking at that one!? Trust that by taking time out, exactly what you desired will start to move and happen in ways you wouldn’t expect. And when you take that time out, set a clear and powerful intention about what it is you desire, and then let it go. Solutions will come from nowhere. Your energy and demeanour will change and attract the help, the people or the resources you need. You will ultimately create what you desire, by doing less! By letting go.

Is your mind cluttered?

If you want to work on identifying obstacles that you’re creating without even realising it and want  different and more impactful results in your life and/or business , consider working with a coach!  And yes, even coaches work with a coach, as we often can’t see what we’re blinkered about in our own lives and business. Unlock the door...

Its time to reconnect with the bigger vision of why we’re doing what we’re doing.  Get rid of the small detail stuff that feels cloying, and clutters our minds with ‘should-ofs’ ‘musts’ ‘don’t know how but will figure it out somehow’ ‘I know I can do it if I put my mind to it’ ‘I can’t afford to do it’  around the issues that are holding us back.  You owe it to yourself and your community you’re in service to, to get real with yourself, and start to let go.   In letting go, we can focus on whats most important.  We also get to give the pieces we don’t enjoy or have no skill, to someone who will totally embrace them because it’s what brings them joy!  We get to focus on the important parts of our business, our core skills and gifts, and living into the bigger vision of our lives and business, not getting stuck in the small detail but looking at the amazing possibilities that the universe is constantly presenting to us.  In opening up this space, flow starts to happen, and you and your business will jump forward in huge leaps and bounds!  Are you ready for that?   Well now that you have committed with a resounding yes, what will that first step be?   I am letting go of having to know everything about setting up the details in my blog, also setting up my email /auto-responder system, just for starters.  Just acknowledging this to myself feels truly liberating and empowering.    I know you’ll feel the same way.  And who is helping you get clear on your path in your business, clearing your way to making your vision into a prosperous and joyful reality.   Its really important to have someone mentor you on this journey, to move you through these obstacle quickly, as we don’t see them for ourselves until we’re really and truly stuck. Not a great place to be in.    So who is going to be that person for you?  These are key elements to your moving forward with Joy, Momentum, Purpose & Clarity not only in 2010, but in this decade.

Some of you might say, well if I am going to attract what I want in the world, or the clients I would like to work with I need to focus on the ‘know, like and trust’ factor, and so being provocative might not help me in attracting clients generally! Well, my response is yes, we do want to focus on the ‘know, like and trust’ factor, with our IDEAL clients. And not waste our time on the dabblers, the half foot in half foot out clients. So let the people who really connect with your authentic self find you, and really climb on board. The relationship and results you’ll have with those clients will be more dramatic and effective. And to boot, you’ll both have more fun! Be provocative!

Wow, the weather has been awesome! Well it has in New Jersey!  I hope it has for you!  A few thunderstorms (one took out one of my Facebook Webinars! lol) but its been great!  Our veggie community garden is growing like crazy and we have been eating beautiful stripey tomatoes, thai aubergines, and canteloupe melons to name a few.  It is amazing how satisfying it is eating vegetables that taste good, that have come from your own toiling of the soil!  And oh the abundance of it! Very satisfying indeed.

Now what I really wanted to share with you was an amazing and very touching experience I had with my husband on Wednesday night, when we went to Count Basie to watch John Legend, and India.Arie.  What a treat the evening was, both amazing artists, and in such a beautiful setting too.  (I love the Count Basie theatre, and it looks amazing after its makeover!)    To my surprise, India.Arie, came on the stage, started singing and then left the stage a couple of phrases into the song – noone really knew what was going on.   She was gone a while, and her band did an amazing job singing and continuing to entertain us, while we waited in consternation. (they were actually excellent in their own right!)  After a while India came back on the stage, and shared something very touching.  You could see she had been crying, and she shared with us that she had watched a documentary on Joni Mitchell the night before who was one of her role models, and how it reminded her of why she loved her, that she stayed away from the commercialism of the music industry and really stuck to doing music that was close to her heart, and spoke to her soul – she felt she had strayed.  And so she did a set that was completely unplanned, she took her hair off (literally), she brought her mother on stage, and sang some beautiful and very touching melodies and words.  I shed a few tears myself. I want to honor India for her courageous, and her ability to create the awareness for herself around what’s most important to her and then own it. She really did that night.  Thank you India, you are an inspiration.

So as a coach, I was ecstatic to see someone like India who is all about living in integrity with who she is, her values, and how she wants to effect this world.  I was enraptured and enthralled. (I don’t know if I have any more words to describe it…lol)  She is an amazing role model, who really can have a huge impact on the world in a very powerful way.  One person can make a difference.  Also being out of integrity with oneself, brings about unhappiness – we all saw that on Wednesday.  Follow what truly speaks to you, and your heart.

My dear hubby and I are off to Nr Ireland and Spain tomorrow for a couple of weeks, well deserved rest – after dh having a mild stroke a couple of weeks ago, and myself with symptoms that  seem to point to  Lyme Disease  – we really are looking forward to the break.  Time with my goddaughter in Spain, one of my oldest friends (we go back 20 years!) and my aunt and uncle who are coolio!  Beach, pool, beach, pool, and sangria!
