The reality is that when you’re growing a business in healing or helping profession, you want to have certain specific foundational pieces in place first!  Like deciding who you’re serving;  having systems in place to run your business effectively – like email management systems, bookkeeping etc; and having step by step strategies to communicate with and enroll clients.

I’ve recognised when I moved to the US 7 years ago, that everything had sugar in it, even the bread. It was a bit of a shock to my poor body, and immediately I started putting on weight. Eventually our taste buds adjust, but of course thats not always a good thing, when you want to avoid eating something like sugar.

I probably don’t need to spell out to you, what you already know! …That obesity is one of the main causes of death in the US, and leads to diabetes, heart failure and so on. And the kids… well don’t get me started.

Its up to us to educate ourselves and pass that information on to the next generation and our clients. And, if we make a big enough noise, which thankfully is starting to happen, we can get corporations and school canteens to sit up and pay attention to the well being of our society.  I love what Jamie Oliver is doing in the school systems here and in the UK!

From a spiritual stand point, we are damaging the vessel that houses our spirit in this current life time. When we consider the body the temple that houses our spirit, being aware of how we are treating that temple, puts a different spin on it. So lets take a step to honor our ‘temple’.

One such person, who is doing just that, and who’s taking a stand about the danger of sugar and our country-wide addiction to it, is Connie Bennett, author of Sugar Shock. Own the Pioneer in YOU!

So if you’re on the frontier as a Pioneer, what does that mean to marketing in your business?  What does it mean you need to do to make sure that the world understands and knows what you’re doing,?  To be able to help them the way that you know you could, if only you had the chance?   Mmmm, lots to consider!

Here are 5 key elements, to being a Pioneer:

• Firstly it’s OWNING what gifts you have to share with world.    Yes – try that on for a moment. Pretend its a snuggly coat of OWNERSHIP of what you do so well, and wear it proudly and confidently.
• Secondly, its taking RESPONSIBILITY for this wonderful coat you’re wearing!  You have to show it off, and let the world know how wonderful ‘it’ is!
• Thirdly, its making sure that now in the OWNERSHIP of your gift, and understanding the RESPONSIBILITY that comes with it,that the world must hear about.  Shout from the rooftops if you have to.  (yes I’m sure some of you are cringing right now at the thought of that, but now isn’t it your RESPONSIBILITY to be doing that?)
• Fourthly, remind yourself that you are not filling that RESPONSIBILITY if the world doesn’t even know its there.  So what do you need to do to make sure that the world hears about it?  Sees it?  Experiences it?    Whatever intuitively fits for you is generally the answer (easily accessed when working with a coach   to choose the vehicle or platform (or ‘runway’) lol,  to evangelise what you do.  Did I just use that word? Yes I did, taking it from its pure meaning …..
  

  Definition: evangelize verb ( OPINIONS )

[I] to talk about how good you think something is

• Fifthly – to take it one step further, which is to get others to evangelise about what you’re doing too!   There are lots of ways to dothis, but I just want to get the general message out there, with getting into the how-to’s here.
• BONUS key element:  Yes, it takes courage to step out there so boldly – and what would happen if you don’t?

I would love to get your input on these points, as well as hear how you are ‘owning’ your gift, and the work you need to do to get it out into the world.  Tell me how the ‘ownership coat’  or maybe its those boots  – fit as a Pioneer in your field of work.   Once you start trying on these key principles, the idea of sharing and marketing, takes on a whole new perspective!

Running a business requires wearing many different hats, so it’s easy to lose focus or get overwhelmed. That’s why it’s so important to keep your priorities straight and eliminate extraneous tasks that don’t contribute to your bottom line. It may sound complicated, but it’s actually very simple: delegate, automate, or delete anything that doesn’t require your personal attention.

Here’s how to apply this principle to your business.

Delegate: Every business has projects that need to get done but aren’t tied to your company’s core business function. For instance, writing press releases, processing returns, managing customer service issues, and keeping the books. You may have handled all of these tasks (and then some) when you first started the business, but now they just distract you from the big picture. And they cost you money.

Think about it: if you’re answering customer service calls when you could be generating more revenue, then you’re cutting into your own profits. Say you hired an assistant at $15/hour to answer the phone while you bring in $150/hour speaking, coaching, or doing some other high level function. After you pay the assistant, you’d still be earning $135/hour and working more efficiently. As you grow your business, it’s necessary to find employees or contractors you trust and delegate some of the day-to-day tasks that slow you down.

Automate: Of course, not everything requires a real live person. Once you create systems to automate mindless tasks, you’ll notice that your business runs more smoothly and you have more time to devote to tasks that really matter. With the right equipment and a little set-up, it’s possible to automate bulk mailings, auto-responses to emails, payroll, bill paying, and many other tasks.

You can also use web-based tools to automate your social media marketing. You (or a member of your staff) should still monitor social media sites like Twitter or Facebook to lend a personal touch from time to time, but services like TwitterFeed.com allow you to syndicate new blog posts to your Twitter followers automatically. There are similar tools available for Facebook. Google Alerts is another web-based automation tool that will automatically email you when your company is mentioned on a blog or website. Sign up at Google.com/alerts.

Delete: Of course, sometimes the smartest solution is to simply hit the delete button! Emails such as those from individuals wanting you to blog about their new book or buy advertising on their website, nonprofits soliciting donations, or businesses selling you stuff don’t require a follow up. Mass emails from a commercial entity are required to include an “unsubscribe” option so that’s an easy way to eliminate excessive emails in the future. Another option is to create an email filter so messages from certain addresses get automatically deleted or moved to a folder for you to review later.

Once you’ve used these strategies to streamline your business processes, you’ll enjoy lower stress levels and increased productivity, both of which will benefit your business.
